Fall has officially begun and I am quite excited. It is finally cool enough that we don’t need to run the A.C. at all anymore. Plus – more like a blessing in disguise – I have the time to enjoy fall to the fullest this year. Normally I would work a lot because it is the start of the school year. But no work permit, no work, more time for fall everything. We already went apple picking and have planned a short camping trip in October. I also hope to go on a road trip to Vermont to see the foliage. Besides the traveling, I enjoy the fall cuisine to the fullest. There are already a few little pumpkins waiting for me to process them. Next to our big bag of apples that we picked last weekend. Over the years I have accumulated quite a few recipes for tasty fall dishes.
Here are my 15 favorite dishes for a warm and cozy fall – subdivided into first savory and then sweet dishes:
What to Cook this Fall
1. Maple Butter Roasted Acorn Squash with Quinoa and Pecans
This is a splendid main dish that also looks pretty.
2. Seasonal Eats Better: Zucchini Soup with Fried Apricots
I can always eat zucchini and love this soup with its flavor mix of pungent and sweet.
3. İmam bayıldı – or: The Imam Fainted
Eggplants are such a great vegetable and I enjoy cooking with them, esp. in fall when I can combine them with fresh tomatoes. This is traditional Turkish dish, which is absolutely worth it to cook.
4. Romaine Lettuce and Sweet Potato Salad
I am not the biggest fan of salads, but this one we eat on a regular basis in fall.
5. Pumpkin Ravioli
These ravioli are much easier to make than one thinks. I posted the recipe so long ago that the post is written in German. I have now added the recipe in English (just scroll down).
6. Pumpkin Risotto with Chestnuts
This contains many of the things I love: pumpkin, chestnuts, risotto … I highly recommend this fall risotto. As before, I had posted the recipe originally in German, but have now added the instructions in English (just scroll down).
7. Vegan Cabbage Rolls
These cabbage rolls are super yummy with their filling made of riced cauliflower, mushrooms, walnuts and spices.
8. Early Fall Vegan Savoy Cabbage Stew
I published this recipe only recently. We really enjoyed the crunchy mix of savoy cabbage and walnuts.
What to Bake this Fall
9. Pumpkin Caramel Cupcakes with Salty Caramel Cream Cheese Topping
I make these every single year, either as cupcakes or as a bigger cake. It always works out great and everybody loves the pumpkin caramel (cup)cakes.
10. Browned Butter White Chocolate Chip Blondies
Warm blondies, fresh out of the oven are the perfect dessert on a cold fall evening.
11. Caramelized Walnut Pear Tart
I might prefer pears over apples. This is why I also prefer this pear tart over any apple pie.
12. Thanksgiving 2015 & Recipe for Pumpkin Pie
There is nothing like a traditional pumpkin pie in fall. Always a favorite.
13. Pecan Pie
And another traditional pie here in the U.S.: the pecan pie.
14. Almond Streusel Peach Cake
An easy fruit cake. You could swap the peaches for any other fruits you find in fall. I am thinking of apples, pears or plums.
15. Baked Peach Donuts
Donuts belong to fall and these baked ones are super easy to make. If you can’t find peaches anymore, use apples. That might be even more autumnal.
