Turkey Tuesday: Die Atatürk-Talsperre

Posted onOctober 14, 2014October 13, 20143 Comments

Yesterday, we went to the #queenszoo for the first time. Actually, it was even my first zoo visit in the U.S. 🦬🦜🦭
~
The things I liked:
• very easy to get their with the 7 🚇
• affordable tickets ($ 9.95 for an adult)
• only native animals 🐗🦙🐻🦆
• it wasn't crowded
• we highly enjoyed when they fed the sea lions 🦭🐟
• the zoo is beautiful, even in the middle of winter
• the petting zoo is fun 🐐🐑🐖🐄
• everything is accessible
~
What I didn't like:
• they say there is a cafe, but they only sell expensive, sad sandwiches and salads in their zoo store 💸 (it seems though that they have a food truck there in the warmer seasons)
• only benches and tables to sit and eat at outside, which was terrible on a freezing day like yesterday 🥶
• the bathrooms are cold because the main doors are always open

I haven't introduced myself in a long time here on Instagram. - 👋 Hi, I am Jana, and here are 10 facts about me:
1. I lived and worked in Istanbul from 2010 - 2015 - and I ❤ it so so much. Istanbul is still my absolute favorite city.
2. I now live in Midtown East (NYC) with my U.S. American husband, our daughter, and two cats. 👨‍👩‍👧🐅🐆
3. It took Rich and me 3 attempts to get married in 2020 👰‍♀️🤵‍♂️ because a) Covid in general and then b) we got Covid. In the end, our wedding consisted of us, one witness (our friend) and our officiant.
4. I am still in awe of living in real big cities 🌇. Originally, I am from a tiny village of about 150 people in the middle of nowhere in Northern Germany 🏡🐄🐃🐂.
5. We bought our apartment in spring/summer 2021 when prices were significantly lower (although that is relative as we talk about Manhattan 😅).
6. I used to be a middle and high school teacher 👩‍🏫. But it is a career that I do not want to pursue anymore/again.
7. I have blogged since 2010. 💻 I started my WordPress blog (https://janavar.net 🌐) just after I had moved to Istanbul.
8. My first and only 🚗 is a (used) Dodge Neon. I love it so much that I couldn't part from it when I noticed I don't need it in the City. So we left it in our (as in my husband's family's) summer house in Maine.
9. I never thought I'd ever be a stay at home mom, but I really love and enjoy it 👩‍🍼 (then in again, in other countries, it is just normal to stay at home until your baby is at least a year old - not so in the U.S.).
10. I love NYC. But if Rich suggested moving to another country, I'd immediately get out our suitcases. 🗺

Ferry ride from 34th Street to Long Island City 🛳.
I really enjoy the @nycferry . It also reminds me a lot of my years in Istanbul, where ferries are much more common to get around. For us here, it is only a three minute ride to get to LIC, from where we have a fantastic view of Manhattan 😊 (one of the few reasons why I go to Queens at all 😜)

Happy Caturday! Arti and Lotti have had a highly relaxing first week of 2023, as in the same procedure as every week 😻
Also: 📸 I didn't even have the option to use square photos? A new Instagram feature? I am not sure if I like it, esp. since I am not one for changes 😕. What about you?
