The last two weeks were both great and exhausting. I went on a school trip to Germany, first to Hamburg, then to Berlin. I have always preferred Berlin over Hamburg and that was reconfirmed once more. Berlin feels so international, alternative, relaxed, and refreshing. We stayed in a brand-new hotel right at Ostbahnhof and next to Eastside Gallery. I really wish there had been more time to stroll around, but the main issue was that I had a bad cold all week long. That was basically the worst timing, but just what happens when you spend two weeks so close with a group of high school students and you never sleep nor eat healthy enough. I still managed to attend all events because we had a lot planned. Some of my highlights were definitely the latest show “Vivid” in Friedrichstadt-Palast which we saw on its opening night; the rooftop terrace of the Federal Foreign Office from where you can see most of the city; visiting Palace Sanssouci in the early morning before all the (other) tourist groups arrived. I also had time to do a bit of shopping. Normally I would condemn German supermarkets already selling Christmas chocolates. But this year this was just perfect for me to fill my suitcase with greater amounts of marcipane.
Now that I am back in Boston, I am really looking forward to fall break starting next weekend. The two week long trip wore me out. On top, I suffer from jet lag and still need to recover from my cold. Also, Canavar is for the first time ever pretty angry at me for having left him alone for so long. I am still waiting for him to come around and resume our daily cuddle sessions. But I am sure everything will feel a lot better in a few days.
