I am lying on a little sofa in a small cottage. When I look outside, I see everything covered in snow. The road in the background seems ploughed. And I assume that the roads around here are good to drive on because my boyfriend left early(ish) this morning to go skiing. There are a few houses in the neighborhood, but mostly trees, a little river and some mountains a little further away. We are definitely not in the City anymore, Toto. But it is a long weekend (tomorrow is Martin Luther King Jr. Day) and so we felt like we wanted to spend the weekend in the (almost) wild nature. The snow storm yesterday obviously started as soon as we started the car. But despite the wind and snow, we managed to drive for almost three hours without any problems. Once we arrived, we immediately switched on the heating and spent the evening reading, talking, and watching “The Shoe of Manitou”, a popular German parody of western films (which also led us to discuss German humor).

Our Airbnb cottage is in actually such a tiny town that there is only one store around here. That store closes at 4 p.m. And no food delivery. I checked. Last night the weather was too bad to drive to any restaurant a little further away, but that is what we might do tonight. Also, we haven’t brought that much food. Even though I don’t want to live in the countryside, I have to admit that it is worth leaving the City every now and then and to enjoy silence.
