Outfit: Just don’t care

When I was in New York City last weekend, I stayed in Brooklyn instead of Manhattan for the first time. Inside I feel rather like a Manhattan girl, but my bank balance voted for Brooklyn. The hostel there wasn’t only much cheaper, but also really nice. I actually haven’t seen much of Brooklyn, but it doesn’t seem that bad – and it only took me fifteen minutes to head to Manhattan by metro. My hostel is in East Williamsburg, where many apartments and small shops are in old factories and warehouses. Besides, there are many great graffiti.

Nicht so in New York.

What I also like about New York City is that I can wear whatever I want to. It is kind of expected that many people wear crazy clothes. That weekend I saw several men wearing skirts, Asian women in manga style, and besides many interesting hair styles including some very exotic hair colors. In comparison my outfit was quite conservative. However, in Boston my bright orange pants for instance catch a lot of attention. Not so much in New York City. There I can have my fake septum piercing, and nobody cares at all – except for me, and I really like it. It takes so much more than my outfit in order to stand out in New York City, but that’s nothing to me. The point is that I don’t need to stand out, but I want to feel good, to wear whatever I want to, and not to be judged.

  1. Puh!
