Week in review: 11 – 17 May 2020

I have now spent 9 weeks at home. While it seems like a long time, it hasn’t felt that long to me. I am still waiting for that moment where I am just utterly bored. But also this week was full of work. And I find so many things to do in my free time. I think I’ll have to make a list. After all there isn’t so much time left to be bored … like summer vacation starts in only 6 weeks and we might go back to the actual school in about 15 weeks. Very little time to read all my TBR for instance …

This week, summer has arrived in the City and it is just the most amazing feeling ever. I want to be outside and soak up all the sun. Plus it is still comparably quiet and empty everywhere. The stay-at-home order has just been extended until mid-June, at least in NYC. But there are icecream trucks and some little cafes open in or near parks. There is plenty of space to sit on the grass in Bryant Park for example, which never was the case before.

The other exciting thing that happened this week was that I met up with a friend for the first time since mid-March. She happened to have an appointment in Midtown on Monday and so we took a short walk to the East River together. With some distance of course. Even though I talk to her on the phone regularly, it is different and more fun to see her in real life. It makes me wonder what it will be like when we can all meet up again and don’t have to keep a distance or wear masks. It might even feel overwhelming. Then again, here at least we have many more weeks or even months to prepare for that exciting moment.
