Happy New Year 2021!!!
Doesn’t it already feel like a better year? Yeah, yeah, no, I know. It doesn’t really. But I hope we will get there over the next few months. And until then some (new found) optimism definitely helps. Even though I put on my glittery outfit last night, we had a very quiet New Year’s Eve. I mean judging from the photos, Lotti was totally confused by my amazing fashion choice of combining my glitter dress with my fluffy slippers … After a nice long bath and talking to my parents on the phone (they started 2021 six hours before us), we also called Rich’s parents and then ordered sushi. After dinner we watched the seventh Harry Potter movie and headed to bed at about 11 p.m. There wasn’t any need for us to enjoy 2020 to its very last second.
A few days ago we already went to Times Square where we wrote our New Year’s wishes on little papers that would be made into confetti for the New Year’s Eve party. A small party this year as they blocked off Times Square and had invited only few people to attend. But the line for writing down wishes was really long. I guess after 2020 wishes feel important than parties.
So instead of partying, we got up early this morning, at 6.45 a.m. Yawn! With a backpack full of hot coffee (thank god for our coffee machine with its timer), a warm blanket, a bottle of prosecco and banana pudding, we walked to the East River to enjoy today’s sunrise. And it was such a beautiful one!
There wasn’t anybody else there while we watched the sun rise first over Long Island City. We ate our breakfast and drank to the new year.
Eventually we got cold despite our warm clothes and blanket so that we returned home. It felt like a splendid start into 2021. Now we just have to see what the new year brings.
