Happy Monday! Since it was Veteran’s Day yesterday, we have the day off today. I really like the U.S. idea of observing holidays that fall on a weekend on the Monday afterwards. I remember being always disappointed when that happened in Germany because there isn’t any observance on the Monday after. But long weekends feel so good. I actually attended a conference on Saturday and also gave my first ever workshop to teachers outside of the schools I have worked at. It was a very exciting experience to me. I have the habit of being calm until about an hour before a presentation, then I get horribly nervous – only to calm down again about five minutes after I have started. I believe I did a good job though and that was a nice push for my professional self-esteem this weekend.
On Sunday then I really only relaxed. Winter has basically arrived with temperatures of only 4°C during the day. So I dressed very warmly and took a walk to and through Central Park that lasted several hours. It was lovely to enjoy the sun, watch squirrels, drink hot coffee, watch a zillion people having their pregnancy/little kids/engagement/wedding/… photoshoot. Central Park definitely is one of my favorite places in Manhattan and I love to spend time there in every season. Now that winter has started, I can’t wait to finally try all the ice skating rinks. Oh, and T H E Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center has arrived … I am already getting very excited for Christmas time.
