Happy Halloween!
4:00, wallow in self-pity. 4:30, stare into the abyss. 5:00, solve world hunger, tell no one. 5:30, jazzercize; 6:30, dinner with me. I can’t cancel that again. 7:00, wrestle with my self-loathing. I’m booked. Of course, if I bump the loathing to 9, I could still be done in time to lay in bed, stare at the ceiling and slip slowly into madness.
The Grinch
My Halloween costume this year feels like the role I have prepared for for so long. I love love love the Grinch (and his dog Max). It turned out that my belly also has the right size to make me look even more grinchy. Plus I have watched the movies often enough to be able to move and talk like the Grinch to a certain extent. This might be my favorite Halloween costume ever.
Since I spent the last weeks rather home alone and every now then also wallowing in self-pity, I feel very much in my Grinch role. I always thought the Grinch was misunderstood anyways. He is just an introvert hiding in a cave. Maybe he neither didn’t obtain a work permit in time. Good thing he and I have our best friend Max who keeps us company whenever we feel down.
And now excuse me, but I have to get back into my costume because our building soon starts trick and treating for the kids who live here. Afterwards, we are going to the NYC Village Halloween Parade. – And tomorrow I might start the day with laughing at this year’s Halloween memories.
