Travel: Long Island & The Hamptons – First Impressions

My five day vacation on Long Island last week was the first proper vacation this year. It had taken my friend a while to convince me to go and I am happy she did. We found an affordable hotel room in Riverhead and went on day trips to the North Fork and the Hamptons from there.  My car prove to be useful and necessary because you can’t get to most places using only public transport. We did many different things like lying on beaches and dabbling in the waves, visiting little towns, testing wine at vineyards, eating seafood, shopping in an outlet mall, getting plenty of sleep, a lot of chatting and laughing … it felt wonderful and made for a nice change.

Another plus was that Long Island is just around the corner from the City. I mean part of NYC is actually on Long Island, namely Queens and Brooklyn. So it is not far away. We drove for about two hours there. AND there are both Lidl and Aldi supermarkets on Long Island, meaning a dream come true for us Germans. On the way back we went properly grocery shopping at Lidl, yum. Besides, we didn’t have to leave the state, which is of course possible, but not necessarily advisable these days. I have already shared all our recommendations with two colleagues who, together with their families, spend a few days on Long Island this week.

I am definitely going to write a few more blog posts about this vacation and present a few places in detail. But for today I only want to show you a few photo impressions.
