I am still struggling to adjust to the late fall weather. On Saturday I wore my warm winter coat for the first time, and in contrast to when I was younger, I don’t mind wearing hats and glove. The most important thing – now that I am apparently old and grown-up and wise – is that I feel warm. I remember that even five years ago I would rather freeze my ears off than wearing a hat. At least we haven’t had snow yet, unlike my family and friends in Germany, and this week temperatures are supposed to rise up to 15 °C. I would still prefer if we’d just skip winter season and it was the beginning of spring. Or summer. I love summer most of all.
Unfortunately it is still another seven months till next summer. So I looked through old photos (also a shock moment when I realized that half of all my photos from 2011 are missing – I hope I’ll remember where I saved them) when life was warm and I spent almost all of my time outside. Like in August when I spent a day on the beach on the Darß Peninsula, which is close to where I grew up in Germany. It was actually a cool and windy day, but since I love being at the sea, it didn’t bother me too much. My dad and I took a long walk on the beach. Well, after we had drunk a huge cup of coffee each and eaten a snack from the little food truck at the beach access. I totally take after my dad: we need rather big amounts of coffee every day to be both, really awake and in a good mood; also we feel quickly hypoglycemic and need some food, or else we become cranky.
So I guess my mom was lucky that we got everything we needed on that day. Plus a long beach walk and wet feet. It’s part of the big fun of course. The only downside of being at the Baltic Sea is that it is usually too chilly there to go swimming. When I was a kid, I didn’t mind the cold (but then I also didn’t want to wear hats so maybe I perceived temperatures differently). But esp. since I lived in Turkey and spent many vacations at (and in) the Mediterranean Sea, I can’t swim anymore in water that’s below 23 °C.
This actually makes me dream of my next beach vacation. Not that I have planned any and Las Vegas lies in a desert as far as I know, but I surely should start making vacation plans for 2017. Do I hear a beach in the warm south calling me? I think so!
