Here are my favorite books from 2024:
Reading is still one of my favorite pastime activities. With a new baby last year, I had a lot of time to read in the middle of the night. This is also why I almost exclusively read ebooks. At night, this allowed me to read without bothering anybody else. During the day, Ophelia couldn’t play with and rip any paper pages.
The statistics
I use Goodreads to keep track of my reading and always enjoy a look at the statistics (follow me here):
books read: 138
pages read: 36,673
average book length: 265
This definitely corresponds with previous years. Here are my reading years 2021 and 2022.
My 3 favorite novels and series I read in 2024
Jessica Townsend: Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow
Rich actually found the first part of this series in our public library. We both inhaled the first three books about the girl Morrigan Crow, who is a cursed child living in the Wintersea Republic. On the day she is supposed to die, Jupiter North rescues her and takes her to the city of Nevermoor. He is a hotel owner and member of the Wundrous Society, a prestigious group of people with a small superpower. Now, we can’t wait for the final book finally coming out in April.
Leah Cupps: Harley James and the Mystery of the Mayan Kings (Harley James Adventures)
Another children’s book series. This one is set in our actual world. Leah Cupps travels with her archaeologist dad around the world. She discovers her own historic secrets in each place. What I also liked was that the characters were complex. I loved this series so much that I ordered it as a gift for kids last year. The only downside is that it seems that this series is finished. But I couldn’t find any further information.
Luke Richardson: Eden Black Archaeological Thrillers Series
I wasn’t fully convinced after the first book, but continued and highly recommend this adult thriller series. Eden Black starts as a treasure hunter, but soon joins a group of people trying to rescue the world. They travel the world and try to keep archaeological secrets or save artifacts from evil people. At the same time, there is a storyline slowly revealing Eden’s life, which is very different to what she herself thought.
My 2 favorite non-fiction books I read in 2024
Helen Sula: Two O’Clock on a Tuesday at Trevi Fountain: A Search for an Unconventional Life Abroad
I have followed Helene on her blog and social media for many years. Before they even moved to Germany. So I enjoyed her book so much. She tells her story, how she started her blog and how she and her husband decided to move to Europe. While I already knew much of that, I still thought it was a well-written book. It definitely piqued my thirst for adventure.
Madeline Pendleton: I Survived Capitalism and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt: Everything I Wish I Never Had to Learn About Money
I found this book interesting on several levels: First, I learned more about the U.S. and its basically non-existing social welfare system or workers’ protection. Then, I learned about Madeline’s personal story. And last, I learned about money and often life advice she gives. All in all, I loved how these three topics are interwoven in each chapter.
