1. Boston hat eine Skyline. Mich faszinieren Wolkenkratzer einfach und ich liebe es, durch Städte zu laufen, in denen ich mehr nach oben als geradeaus gucke. Höchstwahrscheinlich war die Skyline auch ein großer Grund, warum ich dort leben will. Schade, dass ich mir kein Apartment in einem der schicken Hochhäuser leisten kann. Aber dafür werde ich in Flussnähe wohnen und von dort die Skyline bewundern können.

1. Boston has got a skyline. I’m really fascinated by skyscrapers, and I just love to walk through cities looking up rather than streight ahead. Probably the skyline was a very good reason for me to move to Boston. Unfortunately, I can’t afford renting an apartment in one of those nice towers. But I’m going to live close to the river and can admire the skyline from there.

2. Es gibt Leihbibliotheken, die ich in Istanbul fünf Jahre lang vermisst habe. Ich kann es nicht erwarten, in vier Monaten mein erstes Buch dort auszuleihen oder im Lesesaal zu arbeiten.

2. There are libraries, which is what I’ve really missed in Istanbul for the last five years. I can’t wait to lend my first book or work in a reading hall in four months time.

3. Heiße Schokolade mit Marshmallows wie die von Max Brenner. Okay, die gibt es woanders bestimmt auch, aber ich mag das Angebot in Boston, denn es gibt alles, was mein Herz begehrt. Dazu gehören natürlich auch noch ordentlicher Kaffee, amerikanisches Frühstück, Sushi, Cupcakes, Seafood chowder und so einiges mehr. Die aufgeschäumte Meeresfrüchtesuppe ist leider nicht so fotogen, deshalb erspare ich euch das Bild, dafür schmeckt sie absolut genial.

3. Hot chocolate with marshmallows like this one at Max Brenner. Okay, you can get it elsewhere too, but I like the food and drinks Boston offers because it’s everything my heart desires. Besides this great hot chocolate, it’s things like proper coffee, American breakfast, sushi, cupcakes, seafood chowder. Seafood chowder isn’t that photogenice which is why I spare you the picture. But it’s so delicious.

4. Apropos Seafood chowder, die kenne ich aus Irland. Und überhaupt sieht es in Boston für mich an vielen Ecken aus wie in Irland. Sehr viele Einwanderer kamen aus Irland und prägten so auch das Stadtbild. Cambridge bzw. besonders Harvard, wovon ich gerade kein Foto habe, sieht meiner Meinung nach fast wie eine irische Kleinstadt aus. Die Bilder folgen dann im Sommer. Oder wie meine Mutti fragte: “Da, wo du hinziehst, ist das auf der irischen Seite der Stadt?” – “Ja, aber natürlich.”

4. Talking of seafood chowder – I actually know this dish from Ireland. Also Boston looks a lot like an Irish town to me. Many immigrants came from Ireland and influenced the city shape. Cambridge and esp. Harvard, which I right now don’t have any photo of, looks very much like a small Irish town in my opinion. I’ll take photos in summer to show you what I mean. Or as my mom asked: “The part you’re moving to, is it on the Irish side of the city?” – “But of course.”

5. Es gibt viele dicke Eichhörnchen überall in der Stadt. Ich liebe diese kleinen flauschigen Felltierchen und hoffe, dass ich sie füttern kann. Zu gerne würde ich mal eins streicheln.

5. There are so many fat squirrels in the city. I really love these little fluffy, furry animals and hope I’ll be able to feed them. I’d love to pet them.

5 1/2. Nur ein halber Grund, weil ich mir noch nicht sicher bin, ob ich wirklich jemals kalte Winter mögen werde: Der Winter in Boston war wunderschön, besonders als die ganze Stadt im Schnee versank und ich dann im Sonnenschein durch den Park spazieren konnte. Die Luft war meistens klar und somit der Tag richtig hell, was meinem Gemüt einfach sehr viel mehr zusagt als ewiges Grau.

5 1/2. Only half a reason because I’m not yet sure if I’m ever really going to like cold winters: The Boston winter was beautiful, esp. when the whole city was covered with snow. The sun was shining and I walked through the park. The air was clear and the days really bright, something I prefer to the everlasting grey.
