Ab heute sind es noch ganz genau 90 Tage, bis ich mit dem Kater ins Flugzeug steige und nach Boston ziehe. Klingt nach nicht mehr viel Zeit und mir fällt immer mehr ein, was ich bis dahin erledigen muss. Aber die positive Aufregung steigt natürlich genauso. Ich hoffe, dass es in neunzig Tagen nicht mehr in Boston schneit, was im Moment immer wieder passiert. Das scheint meine größte Schwäche zu sein, dass ich mich nie genau über das Klima informiere, bevor ich mich für einen Ort entscheide. In Istanbul hatte ich mediterranes Klima erwartet, aber das Schwarzmeerklima mit seiner kalten, feuchten Luft kam dazwischen.

Von heute bis Montag nehme ich jedoch eine kleine Auszeit von meiner Planung und verbringe das lange Wochenende in Kappadokien, eine Landschaft, die ich gerne noch in meinen letzten drei Monaten in der Türkei sehen wollte [hier]. Außerdem waren meine Ostern in Istanbul in den letzten Jahren eher weniger schön, so dass eine kleine Flucht aufs Land die Serie vielleicht endlich bricht. Dennoch ein kleiner Hinweis meinerseits: Wenn ihr gerade durch Kappadokien wandert, geht runter von den Straßen. Ich habe ein Auto gemietet und bin ein ziemlich schlechter Fahrer – also nicht überdurchschnittlich schlecht, eher wie ein durchschnittlicher Istanbuler Autofahrer, aber die haben definitiv nicht den besten Fahrstil. Wir wollen doch verhindern, dass meine Ostern-Pechsträhne weitergeht, oder?!

Folgende Punkte stehen übrigens im Moment auf meiner Auswanderungsplanungsliste, immerhin einige konnte ich schon abhaken – aber es werden noch mehr dazukommen:

☐ Gesundheitszeugnis für den Kater besorgen (ab einer Woche vorm Flug)
☐ Wohnung aufräumen und sortieren
☐ Dinge wie Möbel verkaufen, verschenken etc.
☐ Packen
☐ Strom, Wasser, Gas, Telefon in Istanbul kündigen (geht erst direkt vorm Auszug)
☐ Konto in den USA einrichten
☐ Social Security Number beantragen
☐ US-Führerschein beantragen

Counting from today I’ve got 90 days left in Istanbul before I climb the airplane together with my cat and move to Boston. That doesn’t sound like a lot of time, and more and more things that I need to do till then come to my mind. But I’m also more and more positively excited. I only hope it won’t snow in Boston in 90 days anymore cause that’s still happening at the moment. It seems to be my greatest weak spot that I never search for enough information about the climate before I decide to move to a place. I had expected Mediterranean climate in Istanbul, but I met the Black Sea climate with its cold and wet air instead.

From today until Monday I take a break from all the planning and spend the long weekend in Cappadocia, a landscape I really wanted to see before leaving Turkey [here]. Besides, my Easters in Istanbul weren’t that nice over the last years so that a little flight from the city might break that series. Therefore a little piece of advice from me: If you’re staying in Cappadocia right now, stay away from the roads. I’ve rented a car and I’m quite a bad driver – not above-average bad, rather like an average Istanbul driver, but they definitely don’t have the best style of driving. And we want to avoid that my Easter-streak-of-bad-luck continues, right?!

By the way, the following items are right now on my moving abroad planning list. At least some I could already check off – but there’ll be more:

☐ cancel energy, gas, water, telephone in Istanbul (only possible directly before moving out)

☐ apply for Social Security Number
☐ apply for US driver license
