Week in review: 29 June – 5 July 2020

This was an excellent long weekend. On Friday we were lazy, yesterday we were lazy, and – guess what – today we were also lazy. Today though we managed to take the car and go to the beach. Which was a brilliant idea because it is quite hot these days. Also, I stumbled upon Orchard Beach on Google Maps while looking for nearby beaches. This one is in the Bronx and only 25 minutes away by car. It wasn’t crowded at all. Beaches in New York City only opened last week for swimming. So we enjoyed the quite warm water. We assume it is a little warmer than elsewhere because the beach is in Pelham Bay. There also weren’t any wind and hardly any waves. We spent a few hours on the beach before walking to City Island for a late lunch.

It is wonderful to do things that used to be normal – like going to the beach or eating in a restaurant (or rather on their patio). Even though I don’t want to keep the car in the City all the time (parking here in Midtown is expensive), I already found out that I could also take the subway and then a bus to Orchard Beach. I am definitely going there again this summer.

Right now we are tired. Days on the beach always have that effect. So we might go to bed early. Nothing like enjoying my summer break with a giant amount of sleep.
