Week in review: 13 – 19 March 2017

Right now I am sitting at a desk in a hotel room on the 21st floor. When I turn my head to the right, I can see half of Boston and even the Blue Mountains behind. It is an amazing view, despite the fact that the roofs are still covered in snow. Since Friday I have been here at a Model United Nations conference with some of my students. Basically, this weekend was all work for me. But since I’ve been a MUN advisor for six years, it’s fun work. I am a little jealous that those kind of things didn’t exist when I was a high school student. I would have loved to pretend to be diplomate and discuss politics in different committees. Although I also learned this weekend that there is a huge difference between MUN in Europe and in the U.S. Of course I only knew the European system where debates are very formal. Here it’s more about public speaking and nobody really cares about formalities like the fact that delegates don’t speak of themselves as “I”. This makes the rule loving German in me quite sad. Otherwise it’s been great. Although I don’t think it’ll be fun for me to wake up tomorrow and head straight to work without any real weekend. Nothing a big pot of coffee won’t solve though. Next weekend I’ll take a real break and fly to Atlanta. I wonder if they have anything as pretty as the view I’m enjoying right now.

|Watched| GNTM, Muhteşem Yüzyıl, Freundinnen fürs Leben, Kückückskind, the opera “The Rake’s Progress”
|Read| The Other Einstein, New York Times, Time Magazine, Rich and Pretty
|Listened to| Jake Bugg, Placebo
|Done| worked, enjoyed one snow day, went to the opera, spent the weekend at a conference with some students
|Eaten| burger, cookies, pasta, sandwiches, ramen
|Drunk| water, coffee, beer, coke
|Thought| oh god, what I don’t find a new roommate?!
|Been happy| the conference was amazing, oh and we had a snow day on Tuesday
|Laughed| about many things
|Desired| a real weekend though to relax
|Bought| three sweaters because the American Apparel close to my house had a closing sale, one of the new Dior lacquer lipsticks
|Clicked| I spent more than a year in Ireland when I studied so I can relate to these “5 things I miss about Ireland”; I really want to make “The ultimate breakfast sandwich”; Kerstin was in Edinburgh and her “Travel guide” makes me want to book a flight there immediately
