Travel: Boston – the city where I never sleep

[Scroll down for English]

I like Boston. Maybe because many streets remind me of Ireland. Because I love towers and skyscrapers. Because even though it is a big city, in comparison to chaotic Istanbul it seems quite small and quiet to me. Boston is also the city in which I never seem to sleep.

I’ve been awake since 2.30 a.m., now it is six. I can absolutely feel the seven hour time difference between Istanbul and Boston. And I had even walked around for hours yesterday, had stayed outside a lot and only gone to bed at around 10 p.m. I’m still tired but so far nothing has helped, neither any breathing exercise nor my ultimative solution – counting back the numbers from 100 in Chinese. Exactly now I would love to have my first coffee and a proper American breakfast. But exactly now everything is closed, and in a few hours I won’t feel that hungry anymore.

Yesterday morning I started my walk through Boston before 9. It was snowing and the streets were empty and quiet, except for the men who using little machines cleared the sidewalks of snow. At least Boston’s center is a lot smaller than I had assumed. Although there is a metro, I walk everywhere. Thus yesterday I already went to the old town, the Waterfront, walked back via the Theater District and Chinatown, and in the evening to modern Back Bay.

I enjoyed the snow a lot and always looked up to all the high buildings. I visited the New England Aquarium, which I’ll write another post about. I ate clam chowder and drank my beloved Starbucks brewed coffee (sorry, dear Istanbul guys, but the Bostonians make it better). I remained steadfast and haven’t bought any Louboutin nail polish or Marc Jacobs makeup (so far).

Today I’m going to explore the city further on foot. But now I’m going back to bed because I feel my body asking for a little afternoon nap – well, it’s just the right time.
