Snapshots from last weekend in NYC

The previous week was exhausting so that I didn’t feel like blogging in the evening. You could already see on Instagram and Snapchat that I went from my work meeting immediately into New York City, from Saturday noon until Sunday evening. Well, actually only to Manhattan because so far the rest hasn’t yet appealed to me. But such a warm fall weekend in Manhattan – temperatures were around 20°C (70°F) – is awesome, esp. in order to unwind.

I was lucky enough to find an almost cheap hotel in Midtown nearly last-minute. It was only two blocks from Bryant park which is why I was also very close to 5th Avenue. I walked from there to colorful Central Park. There I tried the old and beautiful horse carousel for the first time. It is three dollars, and is great fun.

On Sunday I went up to the Top of the Rock, the observation deck on top of the Rockefeller Center, which they have got a special offer for. I love skyscrapers anyways, and therefore I was even happier that I could look down at Manhattan in the morning and during sunset.

It is good that I could go to New York basically all the time now so that I don’t put any pressure on myself anymore to see everything at once. Thus I stand more than an hour on the Top of the Rock and am happy to finally be again in a really large city. On Sunday I also met with a German friend, who is on vacation in New York with her husband. A great coincidence.

We spent the day drinking coffee, eating burgers for lunch and walking on the Highline, which was very crowded due to the beautiful sunny weather. And of course we also talked about old times. There isn’t any better way to relax for me. Besides, it is of course nice to meet “old” friends also in the US.

I was also thrilled that both the ice skating rink in front of the Rockefeller Center and in Bryant Park are already open to the public. You could have basically gone ice skating while still wearing summer clothes. They are also putting up the giant Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center. I would love to be there for the big lighting show on 2 December. But unfortunately that day is a Wednesday.

Even though I had been to New York before, this was the first time that I saw the famous Naked Cowboy on Times Square. He really attracts many women who watch him and all his muscles for quite some time. To be honest, he is far more interesting thatn all the Disney characters who walk around and who you have to pay for in order to take photos with them.

Sunday evening I took the last Amtrak train back to Boston. I was so tired that I slept during the whole ride. Now I am slowly recovering.
