Outfit: Summer dress, and lavender

I could name you a whole list of things that I really love about my new life in the US. But I’m narrowing it down to three things for today: first, I can finally afford buying cut flowers again; second, there is Nordstrom Rack; third, I love the giant variety of foods.

But let’s take one at a time: Cut flowers in Istanbul were just incredibly expensive, which was why I never bought any. But here I can afford bouquets, at least the ones from the supermarket. I will probably also get some potted plants later on, but for now bouquets make me very happy. This week I chose lavender which looks awesome on my new Ikea dresser, and emits all its nice smell into my room. The cat also likes the lavender, but fortunately, neither eats it, nor tries to knock down the vase.

While the lavender is soothing, Nordstrom Rack rather has a dangerously stimulating effect on me. Nordstrom Rack is the outlet of big department store chain Nordstrom, and there I can find everything which makes the great shopaholic in me happy. I am kind of lucky that the next store is in Boston, and I don’t really pass it all too frequently. Except I went there last Saturday when I felt like I needed to a shop a little because I was only hobbling around and pitied myself a lot. There I found the wonderful Diane von Furstenberg silk dress, which I would love to wear every day. It is just perfect for the summer, and also covers my shoulders so that they cannot burn in the sun. I pull up the sleeves when it’s getting too hot.

I’ve been raving about the food in several posts now, but it really is fantastic. I can buy food of all different kinds of cultures. Today together with my housemate I even visited a store in Harvard Square where they sell premade German dumplings, Lübecker Marzipan and langue de chat. I was a little concerned before when it came to American chocolate because I don’t like Hershey’s at all. But there are many other brands around, like the beautiful chocolates in the pictures. I bought these at Trader Joe’s, and really like both kinds, caramel with black sea salt, and toffee with walnuts and pecans. And their wrapping is just gorgeous. Except for those two bars, I haven’t bought any other chocolate yet. Instead I’m indulging in all the fresh summer fruits, esp. blue berries, blackberries and raspberries.
