Books to read this fall

I have always loved to read books. But this year I feel like I am reading even more because I purposely make time just to sit down and enjoy reading. I regularly visit my local library branch, but also use their e-content. My public library is amazing – membership is for free, they always have all the latest books, and even offer many readings for free. Of course I also love to stroll through book shops where I also buy books every now and then. Now that the weather is turning cold – so cold in fact that the heating has already turned over (at the end of September!!!) – I find it very pleasant to stay inside, huddle with my cat under a blanket and read from my pile of unread books, which seems to be constantly growing.

Even though I normally read mostly chick lit, I right now prefer more serious topics and also tend to read more and more non-fictional books. I still love novels which are set in Turkey and esp. Istanbul, at the same time I try to get more background information, e.g. on Sufism. I am pretty certain I will read even more than these twelve books in the next three months.

1st row from left to right: Ian McEwan: “Nutshell”; Eugene Vodolazkin: “Laurus”; Dan Brown: “Inferno”; Rick Riordan: “Magnus Chase and the sword of summer”

2nd row: Karine Tuil: “The Age of reinvention”; Mary Beard: “SPQR. A history of Ancient Rome”; Joshua Hammer: “The bad-ass librarians of Timbuktu and their race to save the world’s most precious manuscripts”; Michael L. & Sarah Bennett: “F*ck feelings”

3rd row: Orhand Pamuk: “Silent house”; Elif Shafak: “The forty rules of love”, “The bastard of Istanbul”; Stephen Schwartz: “The other Islam. Sufism and the road to global harmony”

Do you know any of these? What kind of books are you reading?

    LG Myriam
