Beauty: 6 Products to Combat Dry Winter Skin

In a way my problem is a little ridiculous. For almost all my adult life I dealt with oily skin and all the not so beautiful effects it comes with. Like makeup not lasting unless I put an extra effort, speak special products, into it. Or blemishes. Well, now that has changed. For the first time in my life I am dealing with dry facial skin.

While New York City has humid summers that make staying in the City sometimes sweaty and disgusting, the winters are extremely dry. Just to give you an example: today’s humidity is %38 – in summer it was usually between %70 and 80. And I believe that this low humidity is the main reason for my skin issues. Since I never had dry skin before, it has been quite tough to deal with this kind of skin for me. At first I thought I could just ignore the problem. But it is unpleasant when the facial skin is tight and flakes over weeks.

Over the last few months, I have come up with a new skincare procedure that involves products I already owned and a few new ones. After cleansing, I spray the Caudalie Beauty Elixir on my face. This immediately returns a bit of moisture. During the day I also use Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner, which is a lot cheaper than the Caudalie spray.

In the morning and evening I also use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 as a kind of serum. I love The Ordinary products because they are so simple and inexpensive. This product is the best of all the ones I have tried so far because it helps my skin so much. I claim that it has bolstered up my skin and thus reduced many fine lines.

In the morning I usually use Dr. Jart+ Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer. It is light and quickly absorbed. But most importantly, it hydrates my skin. Even better is another Dr. Jart+ product: their Cicapair Tiger Grass Cream. I put this on my face every evening, and also on mornings when my skin feels particularly dry. Its consistency resembles that of an ointment and it really soothes my skin. For now this is my holy grail to combat my dry winter skin.

I also love Origins Drink Up Overnight Hydrating Mask. Right now I use it together with my night cream though because the mask alone doesn’t keep my facial skin from tensing. Before I used it about once a week as the overnight mask it is.
