Dreamworld: Outfit + Books I keep Pt. 2

Mein großes Maß an Fantasie ist also insgesamt geblieben.

Black cats belong into fairytales …

I’ve always had more than enough fantasy. I remember when my granddad walked through the fields and woods with my cousin and me, both of us of the same age. We were about eight. I made them pretend that my granddad was an old man who had found us poor orphans in the woods and saved us from the witches. Of course we had to be self supporters. So it was just perfect that my granddad had built us bows from willow branches and cord. We shot arrows, that were actually twigs, into the air and watched which one flew furthest. By now I’ve exchanged these kind of ideas for my life in urban jungle, and my day-dreams rather revolve around pretty shoes and restaurants with great food.

I’m also quite imaginative when it comes to choosing my outfits. This week I went to the German General Consulate in Istanbul probably for the last time. I felt like matching my clothes with my tattoos. That is why I wore a black dress that showed most of my seagull tattoo on my back. My handbag and nail polish were little spots of color because I didn’t want to look monochrome. Fairytale princesses need a bit of color.

Over the years I’ve kept my great fantasy. I still love to read fairytales which is why I’m keeping my two books with German and Irish fairytales. Also Ulrich Plenzdorf’s novel “Legend of endless luck” is a bit like a fairytale. Unfortunately, I believe it has never been translated into English. I like this kind of stories in which the author creates his own worlds and develops the action against reality or human logic. It isn’t a fairytale, but also matches into this category for me: “Poems from the desert” by Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, sheikh of Dubai. I bought the English translation of his poems in Dubai a year ago and read them again and again because he creates wonderful images with few words.
